Touch down and clear customs, where your driver will already be waiting with your name on a board. The transfer north takes you past sugarcane fields and small roadside villages before the road opens onto the coast at Lagoon Bay Resort & Spa. Check-in is unhurried — a cold drink on arrival, a walk down to the beach while your room is prepared, and nothing else on the agenda. As the light softens in the late afternoon, take your first walk along the lagoon and let the flight fall away.

A completely open day, and the first real chance to set your own pace. Some guests spend it entirely by the lagoon — sun loungers, a paddle in water so shallow and still it barely counts as swimming. Others head straight to the spa for a treatment, or take a slow walk along the coastline into the nearest village for coffee. There’s no itinerary to keep today; the only plan is whatever you feel like doing, or not doing at all.

After breakfast, a private catamaran collects you from the resort’s jetty for a half-day out on the lagoon. Sail out past the reef break, where the water shifts from pale turquoise to a deep, clear blue, and drop anchor to snorkel among coral gardens and reef fish. Your skipper will know the best spots depending on the day’s conditions, and there’s time to simply drift on deck between stops. You’re back at the resort by early afternoon, with the rest of the day free to recover on the sand.

Another free day, best used one of two ways. Stay at the resort and continue doing very little, or head out on an optional excursion at extra cost: a full day at Île aux Cerfs, the postcard islet reached by speedboat with its own stretch of white sand; a snorkeling trip to Blue Bay Marine Park, home to some of the island’s healthiest coral; or a guided hike through Black River Gorges, Mauritius’s only national park, for waterfalls, native forest and views out over the south-west coast. Whichever you choose, you’re back at the resort in time for dinner.

Your final full day, left open until the evening. Use the morning and afternoon however you like — one last swim, a final spa treatment, or simply packing slowly with the balcony doors open. As the sun starts to drop, a table is set up directly on the sand, away from the main restaurant, for a private dinner timed to the last light over the lagoon. It’s a quiet, unhurried way to close out the trip before the flight home.

A final relaxed morning — breakfast with a view, a last walk on the beach if time allows — before your private transfer collects you from Lagoon Bay Resort & Spa for the drive to the airport. Depending on your flight time, there may be a chance to stop at a local market or viewpoint en route.
